The Tolland Probate District was constituted June 4, 1830, from the Stafford Probate District. The Tolland Probate District merged with the Mansfield Probate District on January 5, 2011 to create the Mansfield - Tolland Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Coventry, Mansfield, Tolland, and Willington.

Torrington, Litchfield County

Town established 1740.


Probate overview

The Torrington Probate District was constituted June 16, 1847, from the Litchfield Probate District. The Torrington Probate District merged with the New Hartford and Winchester Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Torrington Area Probate District, which serves the municipalities of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Goshen, Hartland, New Hartford, Torrington, and Winchester.

The Torrington Probate District also served the municipality of Goshen beginning in May 1895.

Trumbull, Fairfield County

The Trumbull Probate District was constituted January 7, 1959, from the Bridgeport Probate District. The Trumbull Probate District currently serves the municipalities of Easton, Monroe, and Trumbull.

Union, Tolland County

Town established October 1734.

The Stafford Probate District, constituted May 1759, processed probate matters for the Town of Union until January 4, 2011. The Stafford Probate Court merged with the Enfield Probate Court on January 5, 2011 to create the North Central Connecticut Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Enfield, Somers, Stafford, and Union.

Vernon, Tolland County

The Ellington Probate District, constituted May 31, 1826 from the Stafford Probate District, has processed probate matters for the Town of Vernon since May 31, 1826. The Ellington Probate District currently serves the municipalities of Ellington and Vernon. Though the district is named for Ellington, the court sits in Rockville, a section of the town of Vernon.

Voluntown, New London County

The Voluntown Probate District was constituted June 4, 1830, from the Plainfield Probate District. The Voluntown Probate District merged with the Norwich Probate District on April 3, 1889 to create an enlarged Norwich Probate District, which serves the municipalities of Bozrah, Franklin, Griswold, Lisbon, Norwich, Preston, Sprague, and Voluntown.

The Litchfield Probate District, constituted October 1742 from the Woodbury Probate District, processed probate matters for the Town of Warren from its incorporation. The Litchfield Probate District merged with the Harwinton, Northwest Corner, and Thomaston Probate Districts on January 5, 2011, to create the Litchfield Hills Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, and Warren.

The Washington Probate District was constituted May 22, 1832, from the Litchfield and Woodbury Probate Districts. The Washington Probate District merged with the Oxford, Roxbury, Southbury, and Woodbury Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Region #22 Probate District which currently serves the municipalities of Bethlehem, Oxford, Roxbury, Southbury, Washington, Watertown, and Woodbury.
