The Hampton Probate District was constituted June 2, 1836, from the Windham Probate District. The Hampton Probate District merged with the Colchester, Eastford (part), and Windham Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Windham - Colchester Probate District, which serves the municipalities of Chaplin, Colchester, Hampton, Lebanon, Scotland, and Windham.

The Hartland Probate District was constituted June 3, 1836, from the Granby Probate District. On January 8, 2003 the Barkhamsted and Hartland Probate Districts were absorbed by the New Hartford Probate District. The New Hartford Probate District merged on January 5, 2011 with the Torrington and Winchester Probate Districts to create the Torrington Area Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Goshen, Hartland, New Hartford, Torrington, and Winchester.

The Harwinton Probate District merged with the Litchfield, Northwest Corner, and Thomaston Probate Districts on January 5, 2011, to create the Litchfield Hills Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, and Warren.

The Hebron Probate District was constituted May 1789, from the East Haddam Probate District. It also served the following municipalities at various times:

  • Andover, May 1848 - June 1851

  • Columbia May 1808 - June 1851
  • Vernon, October 1808 - May 1814

The Hebron Probate District merged with the Glastonbury Probate District on January 5, 2011 to create the Glastonbury - Hebron Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Glastonbury and Hebron.

The Kent Probate District was constituted May 26, 1831, from the New Milford Probate District. The Kent Probate District was absorbed by the Litchfield Probate District on January 3, 2007. The Litchfield Probate District merged with the Harwinton, Northwest Corner, and Thomaston Probate Districts on January 5, 2011, to create the Litchfield Hills Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, and Warren.

  • October 1755 - May 1786, Litchfield District (covered only the East Greenwich Society of Kent, which became the Town of Warren in May 1786)

The Killingly Probate District was constituted June 4, 1830, from the Plainfield and Pomfret Probate Districts. The Killingly Probate District merged with the Plainfield Probate District on January 5, 2011 to create the Plainfield - Killingly Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canterbury, Killingly, Plainfield, and Sterling.

Probate overview

The Killingworth Probate District was constituted June 1834 from the Saybrook (Chester) Probate District. The Killingworth Probate District merged with the Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Haddam, Lyme, Old Saybrook, Saybrook, and Westbrook Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the new Saybrook Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook.

The Killingworth Probate District also served the municipality of Clinton from May 1838 to July 4, 1862.

The Lebanon Probate District was constituted June 2, 1826, from the Windham Probate District. The Lebanon Probate District was absorbed by the Colchester Probate District on January 8, 2003. The Colchester Probate District merged with the Eastford (part), Hampton, and Windham Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Windham- Colchester Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Chaplin, Colchester, Hampton, Lebanon, Scotland, and Windham.
