The Stafford Probate District merged with the Enfield Probate District on January 5, 2011 to create the North Central Connecticut Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Enfield, Somers, Stafford, and Union.

The Sterling Probate District was constituted June 17, 1852, from the Plainfield Probate District. The Sterling Probate District Probate District merged with the Canterbury and Plainfield Probate Districts on January 8, 2003 to form a single Plainfield Probate District. The Plainfield Probate District merged with the Killingly Probate District on January 5, 2011 to create the Plainfield - Killingly Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canterbury, Killingly, Plainfield, and Sterling.

Town established 1649 as a disputed part of Massachusetts. Connecticut's Charter of 1662 solidified Stonington as belonging to Connecticut.
The Stonington Probate District was constituted October 1766, from the New London Probate District. The Stonington Probate District merged with Groton, Ledyard, and North Stonington Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Southeastern Corner Regional Probate District which serves the municipalities of Groton, Ledyard, North Stonington, and Stonington.

Stratford Probate District was constituted May 1782, from the Fairfield Probate District. The record books of the Stratford District from May 1782 to June 4, 1840, are found in the Bridgeport Probate District. The Stratford Probate District currently serves the municipality of Stratford.

The Suffield Probate District was constituted May 1821, from the Granby Probate District. The Suffield Probate District merged with the East Granby Probate District on January 3, 2007, and later with the Bloomfield and Windsor Locks Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Region #3 Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Bloomfield, East Granby, Suffield, and Windsor Locks.

The Thomaston Probate District was constituted June 1882, from the Waterbury Probate District. The Thomaston Probate District merged with the Harwinton, Litchfield, and Northwest Corner Probate Districts on January 5, 2011, to create the Litchfield Hills Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, and Warren.

The Thompson Probate District was constituted May 25, 1832, from the Pomfret Probate District. The Thompson Probate District merged on January 5, 2011 with the Ashford, Brooklyn, Eastford (part), Pomfret, Putnam, and Woodstock Probate Districts to create the Northeast Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Ashford, Brooklyn, Eastford, Pomfret, Putnam, Thompson, and Woodstock.
The Thompson Probate District also served the municipality of Putnam from May 1855 to July 4, 1856.
