The Ledyard Probate District was constituted June 6, 1837, from the Stonington Probate District. The Ledyard Probate District merged with Groton, North Stonington, and North Stonington Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Southeastern Corner Regional Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Groton, Ledyard, North Stonington, and Stonington.

Probate overview

The Litchfield Probate District was constituted October 1742 from the Woodbury Probate District. The Litchfield Probate District merged with the Harwinton, Northwest Corner, and Thomaston Probate Districts on January 5, 2011, to create the Litchfield Hills Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, and Warren.

The Litchfield Probate District also served the following municipalities at various times:

  • Canaan, 1742 - October 1755
  • Cornwall, October 1742 - June 14, 1847
  • Goshen, October 1742 - May 1895
  • Harwinton, October 1742 - May 26, 1835
  • Kent, October 1742 - October 1755,
  • The Society of East Greenwich that became the town of Warren, October 1755 - May 1786

The Lyme Probate District was constituted July 5, 1869 from the Old Lyme Probate District. The Lyme Probate District merged with the Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Old Saybrook, Saybrook, and Westbrook Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Saybrook Probate District, which currently serves the municipalities of Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook.

The Lyme Probate District also included the municipality of Old Lyme from May 1855 - January 4, 2011.
