Abstract from ERIC: "The purpose of this study is to compare the attitudes of black youth who have a favorable orientation toward the Black Panthers with those of black youth who appear to be oriented toward the N.A.A.C.P. Information involving orientations toward organizations concerned with the lives of black Americans was collected as part of a larger study on the attitudes of students attending segregated high schools in five cities. An anonymous questionnaire was administered in the Spring of 1970. Of the 759 respondents, 188 were from Kansas City, 203 from Eastern City, 204 from Deep South City, 99 from Upper Midwestern City, and 65 from Lower Midwestern City. Supporters of the Black Panthers and the N.A.A.C.P. were identified by using responses to the open-ended item "What groups do you feel are doing the most to help black people?" A respondent was classified as a supporter of one of the two organizations if he cited that organization first and the other not at all. (JM)"
