1970 - Elected to U.S. House of Representatives. Congresses: 92nd (1971–1973), 93rd (1973–1975).

1974 Ran for Governor of Connecticut

1978 - Blizzard of '78.

1980 Diagnosed with cancer. December 4, 1980, announced her resignation, effective December 31

1981 Died February 5, 1981 ; Posthumous received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Ronald Reagan

1994 Inducted into Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame
