The Berlin Probate District, constituted June 2, 1824 from the Farmington, Hartford, and Middletown Probate Districts, has processed probate matters for the Town of New Britain from its incorporation. The Berlin Probate District presently serves the municipalities of Berlin and New Britain. Though the district is named after Berlin, it currently sits in New Britain.

The New Canaan Probate District was constituted June 22, 1937, from the Norwalk Probate District and merged with the Darien Probate District to create the Darien – New Canaan Probate District. The Darien – New Canaan Probate District serves the municipalities of Darien and New Canaan

The New Fairfield Probate District was constituted January 8, 1975, from the Danbury Probate District. The New Fairfield Probate District merged with the Brookfield and New Milford Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Housatonic Probate District, which serves the municipalities of Bridgewater, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford, and Sherman.

The New Hartford Probate District was constituted May 27, 1825, from the Simsbury Probate District. The New Hartford Probate District included Barkhamsted from May 1825 - June 4, 1834 and again from January 8, 2003 - January 4, 2011.
The New Hartford Probate District merged with the Torrington and Winchester Probate Districts on January 5, 2011 to create the Torrington Area Probate District, which serves the municipalities of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Goshen, Hartland, New Hartford, Torrington, and Winchester.
