About the Freedom of Information Commission

The Freedom of Information Commission's role is to apply and promote the elements contained in Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act, and in so doing give the citizenry access to the recorded Connecticut State Agency information, including:

  • Receiving and investigating complaints on violations of Connecticut's FOI Act
  • Issuing declaratory rulings
  • Education and outreach initiatives

The Connecticut FOI Commission was instituted in 1975 by Public Act 342.
