deliverIT CT (formerly Connecticar): Volume

Statewide Library Delivery Service

deliverIT CT Monthly Volume Survey FY2021

The service delivered just over 1.325 million items in FY2021.

This is significantly more than the previous year, when the deliverIT CT service was shut down for three months from mid-March to mid-June 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Service volume rebounded over the course of FY2021 as libraries reopened their doors to patrons.

In an effort to get a more accurate estimate of the number of items delivered, CSL asked libraries to count their incoming and outgoing items daily and report those numbers quarterly. By the last quarter of FY2021, 133 libraries submitted data (62% of libraries that receive delivery). Extrapolating to all 214 libraries and rounding off the numbers, the service delivered just over 1.325 million items in FY2021 (1,325,089 items incoming and 1,344,987 items outgoing).

The chart below shows the monthly estimates of incoming volume for four years, FY2018 through FY2021.

The service delivered almost 1.1 million items in FY2020.

This is significantly less than the previous year as the deliverIT CT service was shut down for three months from mid-March to mid-June during the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost all Connecticut public libraries were closed for this same period of time.

In an effort to get a more accurate estimate of the number of items delivered, CSL asked libraries to count their incoming and outgoing items daily and report those numbers quarterly. By the last quarter of FY2020, 118 libraries submitted data (55% of libraries that receive delivery). Extrapolating to all 214 libraries and rounding off the numbers, the service delivered almost 1.1 million items in FY2020 (1,092,263 items incoming and 1,082,053 items outgoing).

The chart below shows the monthly estimates of incoming volume for three years, FY2018, FY2019, and FY2020.

deliverIT CT Yearly Volume Surveys 2007-2016

deliverIT CT Volume Estimates for Items Delivered

The chart above shows a yearly estimate based on a 'count week.' The count week took place during the month listed on the x-axis/bottom horizontal line.

Periodically the Connecticut State Library asks libraries receiving deliverIT CT (formerly Connecticar or Ccar) service to count items they have received during a sample week. The results of these surveys are being used to keep track of trends and to improve delivery service.

The Connecticut State Library extends a thank you to all library staff members who took the time to count and report their statistics.
