WPA Art Inventory Project

                     WPA Art

This guide contains brief biographical information on artists who were employed by the Federal Art Project. It was an effort to assist artists during the Great Depression of the 1930s to create paintings, murals, sculptures and other works of art for public buildings and for other educational and cultural purposes. Most of the information about the artists came from a collection of Personal History Cards on Artists that is a part of State Archives Record Group 033: Records of the Works Progress Administration. To search a database of the artists represented in this collection see ?
