Connecticut Constitutional History

This guide will provide information about how to research Connecticut's constitutional history.

1965 Constitution Amendments

The current constitution was adopted in 1965 and has been amended 34 times. Constitutional amendment is a two-step process: the legislature must first pass a joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment by a ¾ majority in both chambers and then submit that resolution to the popular vote for ratification in the next election. Alternatively, a proposed amendment that passes by a simple majority in both chambers in two successive legislative sessions may also be submitted for ratification.

The table below includes links to the legislative history for each ratified amendment. The print materials are available in the Law & Legislative Reference Unit.
