A Library for Librarians

The Middletown Library Service Center (MLSC) is part of the Connecticut State Library's Division of Library Development and supports librarians and libraries across the state of Connecticut.  

Our collection 

The MLSC collection supports  and supplements the collections of academic, public, school, and special libraries throughout Connecticut.  The collection includes books, book discussion sets, book props, puppets, large print books, STEM Kits, and a professional collection.  Learn more about our collection on the circulating collections page.

Borrowing Items from MLSC

Library staff can receive items from MLSC two ways:

  1. Browse and reserve materials online.  Items requested online will automatically be sent via the deliverIT CT service unless otherwise requested.

  1. Visit the MLSC. 

    • Browse the collection in person.

    • Pick up requested items or drop off materials checked out to your library.

CT Library for Accessible Books

Formerly known as the CT State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH), the CT Library for Accessible Books (CT LAB) is located within the Middletown Library Service Center.  The CT LAB offices are open to visitors by appointment only at this time.  Contact CT LAB staff by phone at (860) 704-2220 or (800) 842-4516, or by email.

The Middletown Library Service Center is a building that houses items that can be lent to school, public, and academic libraries. The Service Center loans materials out for 30-90 days. You can borrow item from us, and circulate them to your own patrons.

  • Professional collection/ YA/ Non Fiction- 3 months
  • Puppets/ Visual items- 3 months
  • Storytime Resources (Mother Goose)- 3 months
  • Book discussion sets- 45 days (with option to extend)
  • Current Nutmegs- 45 days (No option to extend)
  • Storytime Kits- 30 days
  • STEM Kits- 30 days
