Divorce Records for Genealogy Research

Divorce Records - County Resources

Many divorces in Connecticut were processed by the Superior Court located near where the parties lived.  At the State Library, these records can be found in State Archives Record Group 003, Judicial Records.  Our holdings include Divorce Records or Civil Case Files for most counties; though keep in mind that divorces might be found interfiled with the general records or files of each Superior Court.   Use the tabs to the left to see what is available. For historical information about divorces, please see the file Divorces in Connecticut - A Brief History.

Be sure to read the Access Archives & Secured Collections Guide for information about requesting and using records in the State Archives.

For the 20th century, the superior courts still have the indexes to these records. So it’s helpful to call the Clerk of the Court for a file or docket number.
