Divorce Records for Genealogy Research

Divorce Records for Genealogy Research

starsBreaking News! FamilySearch recently digitized original records for Fairfield, 1868-1941, Hartford, 1864-1953, and New London, 1857-1974,  held in the CT State Archives. You will find links to these records on the Digitized CT Sate Archives Divorce Records tab.

You will also find links to digitized divorces through the Divorce Records by County Tab. These are divorces that were previously microfilmed from the CT State Archives.

Divorce Records can provide a gold mine of information for genealogists. A place and date of marriage, a wife's maiden name, the names and ages of any children, and the reason for the divorce are examples of details that can be given. This guide provides information about where to check for Connecticut divorce records.

For current records, please contact the Clerk's Office at the location where the divorce occurred. See the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch website's Where to File page for contact information. See also the FAQ section about getting a copy of a divorce record.
