How to Use Primo - The CT State Library Discovery Tool

You do not have to login to search Primo. The catalog is available to the public and a library card is not required to search. However, a library card is required to borrow materials and a secured collections card is required to access the archives. Please see our policies for library cards and use of materials.

Please note that circulation rules for items held at the library do not display in guest searches. Please contact us to inquire about the availability of our materials. 

SuDoc numbers are assigned to Federal Documents and ConnDoc numbers are assigned to Connecticut State Documents. 

SuDoc numbers and ConnDoc numbers can be entered in the search box. However, the format and spacing must match the record to return relevant results.

You can also browse the collection by SuDoc and ConnDoc numbers in the Browse Search option. The Browse Search link is in the top menu of the Primo homepage.

To find a print book in the Connecticut State Library, set your search scope to CSL Catalog. 

After completing your search, refine the results to include only books that are Available at CSL.
