Project Name: ConnectU: Fall Into The Library
Purpose: To build connections between the library and junior faculty, and to facilitate connections with colleagues across multiple disciplines to solve current issues and get inspired by each other
Grant Funding Amount: $3,000
Key Elements: Small group discussions in a comfortable, relaxed environment; first iteration will be a book discussion based on the book The Slow Professor, by Maggie Berg and Barbara K. Seeber, which addresses the issues facing academia in the 21st century.
Target Audience: Junior Faculty
Community Support: Provost, Friends of the Burritt Library, Center for Teaching & Faculty Development
Use of grant funds: Posters and bookmarks to promote the program, program supplies such as copies of the discussion book, comfortable furniture
Why:
- To help junior faculty find their place in a new community, learn about new responsibilities, and determine the most effective teaching methods.
- To compensate for the loss of University Hour
- Start to change campus culture
- To encourage connections across departments without requiring committee work
