* These policies are examples only; it is the responsibility of the library director and the library board to ensure that all adopted library policies meet all statutory requirements specified in the Checklist.
A new statutory requirement establishes a Library Program and Display policy. CSL and our policy advisory group recommends 2 separate policies as library programs and library displays are 2 very distinct activities with unique processes.
While the statute requires review of policies every 5 years, CSL and our policy advisory group recommends that CT library boards develop a schedule for review of policies every 1-2 years or as needed in response to shifts in social, technological, environmental, economic and political issues at the local, state and national level.
We recommend that you submit your policies to CSL first for approval before submitting them to your library board, although it is considered best practice is to work with your library board in the development of library policies.
While the sample policies include the minimum statutory language, we do not recommend using only the sample policy as written. We expect to see the statutory language used, but each library has its own unique community needs which your policies should reflect that.
