"You Are Here," Cranston Public Library, RI

You Are Here works by combining a learning component, usually a presentation by an expert on a particular topic, a social component that includes food, and a fun component that includes activities like trivia and music.

Project Name:  You Are Here

Purpose: To help new Americans not only connect and fit in, but to thrive.

Grant Funding Amount: $3,000

Key Elements: Information sessions with experts on topics such as personal finance, housing advice, health & public safety, and legal resources; cultural and informational resources come together; a warm, accepting atmosphere

Target Audience: English Language Learners

Community Support: RI Family Literacy Initiative, YMCA, OneCranston

Use of grant funds: program supplies, fixtures, fees, printing costs


  • To help new Americans connect & share their stories
  • To learn & navigate life in Rhode Island
  • To help immigrants replicate the experiences and the independence they enjoyed back home
