Probate Estate Paper Index

The Connecticut State Library holds most pre-1850 probate estate papers and, for much of the state, papers dated into the 1900s. Most have been indexed in the Library's Probate Estate Papers Index. The index cards are arranged alphabetically by individual's last name and first names. The cards have the individual's name, town of residence, probate district, and list of items contained in the estate packet.

Most of the estate papers have been microfilmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah and are available for use through a Latter-day Saint Family History Center.

Ancestry.com has recently digitized much of the microfilm collection. Connecticut residents can search this remotely. (See the link below).
