Start here for information on obtaining and using library statistics for your library, and for libraries throughout Connecticut and the United States.

National Public Library Chart and Report Creators

The Excel file (3.8 MB) available above:

  • Was originally made for Connecticut public libraries but may be used by any public library in the United States.
  • Creates charts that compare your library to libraries in your state and the nation, including just those who have a similar population.
  • Requires absolutely no knowledge of Excel.
  • Uses the latest data (2015) available from the Public Library Survey released by the Institute of Museum and Library Services in the fall of 2017.
  • Will take some time to download.
  • Will be updated with the newer data as soon as it becomes available (usually each year in the fall).
  • Is still in a work in progress, so please contact Tom Newman with questions, comments, corrections.
